What We've Been Learning

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God
Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
Incomparable, unchangeable
You see the depths of my heart and You love me the same
You are amazing God

Chris Tomlin's song "Indescribable" couldn't describe God any better and with the help of a video series by Louie Giglio, we explored how BIG God truly is.  Through some amazing pictures...

Louie took us on a journey of our Galaxy and how everything points to an all powerful God.  Psalm 19:1 says it best: "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.  Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge”.

Even though, as seen in this picture,

Earth is just a "Pale Blue Dot" and we are somewhere on there, God still knows and cares for us, each of us, because we are His children!  He sent His Son to die on a cross and through the cross we see God loves us, gives us freedom yet maintains control, can use the worst for eternal glory, and He can paint a canvas bigger than we can see, imagine, or understand!
We, as believers, are called to take our faith in this great big God further, to live out our faith daily and make an impact to those around us, all for the glory of God!
In 1 Kings, we learn of a man named Elijah who ran away because his circumstances were so hard.  But God spoke to him; not in the wind, or earthquake, or fire, but in a gentle whisper.  We need to stop, spend time with God in prayer and listen for His "still small voice".

30 Hour Famine

Each year in April, our Youth participate in the 30 Hour Famine.  For 30 hours, the youth go without food to raise money for World Vision, an organization that gives youth the chance to do something about the 925 million people going hungry in our world today.  It only takes $30 to feed a child for a month.  In the past 4 years, I am so proud to say that our youth have raised just over $10 000!  WOW!  Thats a lot of hard work looking for sponsors and many hours of hunger, but its all worth it to know children are getting cared for.  This year, on April 27 the Youth will stop eating after lunch, come to the church at 7:00 that night and together we will do our part in trying to end world hunger while hanging out, playing games, having some fun competition.  On Saturday at 6:00pm, along with all the families, we will have a feast to celebrate the end of the Famine.  Although our youth know there is an end in sight (that huge meal on Saturday night) it is still an opportunity to feel a bit of what millions of people feel every day.  We encourage everyone to find a youth and donate to this wonderful cause!

Senior Youth Pitch and Praise

A highlight of Senior Youth is coming up in May - Pitch and Praise.  As they put it on their website "Pitch & Praise is a camping retreat for high school students that draws nearly 2,000 people to Braeside Camp in Paris, Ontario, on the long weekend in May. There's something for everyone at Pitch. The weekend includes sports tournaments, concerts, games rooms, skateboarding, movies, optional seminars, swimming, talent shows, comedy acts, an open-mic stage, teaching sessions, small group interaction and more. About a dozen denominations are represented at this event which has been running now, for 37 years."
We stay in tents and trailers and have to be prepared for any kind of weather but the weekend is absolutely amazing and the excitement is stirring.  Forms are now available from Dave and feel free to contact him or Kristal if you have any questions.  This is a weekend youth do not want to miss!

Junior Youth Deep Freeze Weekend

We had an amazing weekend up in the Muskokas at Camp Crossroads for our Deep Freeze Retreat!  This retreat was a new adventure for the Junior Youth.  It was wonderful to get to play in the snow (since we didn't have snow down here!) and enjoy being together and hanging out as a group.  We need opportunities throughout the year to just hang out and have fun for the group to bond.  There is something so special about going away and being outdoors that helps a group grow closer together and more importantly grow closer to God.  Thankfully the drive up was uneventful and we enjoyed settling in Friday night.  Saturday we got to go tubing, skiing, snow shoeing, and we all played The Great Winter Quest!  We believe the girls should have won with all the mango and baby bribing going on (all of which was allowed for the game) but we had fun anyway!!  The speaker spoke on David and how although he was young, he used everyday to glorify God!  As a shepherd, he used his time to learn to use a sling, write poetry, play the harp and worship God.  All these things were talents God gave him when he was young so God could use him later.  We can learn alot from him about using every situation the best we can!  We had an amazing weekend and the wordle above are just a few of the unforgettable memories of the retreat!
